Photofabrication have chemically etched Christmas Gifts designed by numerous organisations for many years. With the introduction of a Creative member of the Photofab team we thought we would challenge her to test the process. This is what Laura came up with:
Rudolph and his Sleigh!
So how does this work?
We chemically etch the pieces which make up both the reindeer and the sleigh from flat sheet stainless steel. The sheet is lacquered and processed though our sublimation printing operation. This is then broken from the sheet (all pieces are held into the sheet by small retaining tabs, similar to an “airfix” model). From here each piece is slotted together to form the three dimensional gifts you see above.
| Assembly Instructions for Reindeer and Sleigh |
| Reindeer; 4 Pieces (1 x Body, 2 x sets of legs & 1 x pair antlers)First of all attach the first set of legs by inserting the slot in the leg into the slot in the body section, keeping the half etch hoof detail to the front. This needs to be firmly pushed and should then be repeated for the second set of legs.Using the same methods add the antlers to the head. |
| Sleigh; 3 Pieces (2 x sides and 1 x base)You will require 1 side piece of the sleigh ensuring that the half etch detail will be facing outside and the base with the half etch lines on the underside of the sleigh.Gently insert the smallest tab on the base into the front (smallest) slot of the first side, to secure in place bend the tab (once through the slot) away from the detailing on the side.Gently repeat the same procedure with the remaining 3 tabs and slots (first side only).
Fold down the front section of the base, to reveal the Photofab text. Add the second side panel by repeating the details of the first side above. |

This is just one idea of how the chemical etching process can be used, why not think of something for your own clients / customers which would WOW them for next Christmas.
