Encoder Discs

Photofabrication has a wide experience in the manufacture of products for optical applications. All products are custom designed to suit the customers requirements, whether they are driven by motion control, positioning, sensors or measurement. Key requirements include high accuracy, fine apertures, no burrs and often an additional coating. Due to the bespoke nature of each user’s requirement Photofabrication offer solutions customized to your individual requirements.

Typically which ever environment the products are destined for the key requirements remain, and are all available from Photofabrication. This includes additional finishing processes, for example blackening to remove reflection. The chemical etching process offers high precision parts, which have a burr free finish combined with low cost tooling.

Optical Encoder

For bespoke metal optical encoder and actuator products the manufacturing technique of choice is Chemical Milling, let us illustrate this in more detail:

Main Benefits of Chemical Milling:

  • Low cost tooling
  • High accuracy
  • Customised parts – you design it – we make it! (Guidelines available)
  • Various apertures, shapes and bar combinations
  • Over 35 years experience in Photo etching metal encoder discs and Actuator Components
  • Burr free & Stress free manufacturing method
  • Various surface finishes available
  • Prototypes – fast turnaround to meet your needs
  • High volume capabilities

Photofabrication’s optical encoder and actuator components are made from various grades of metal depending on the requirement. With thickness of metal ranging from 10 micron to 1mm. To find out more about the metals available click here.

Optical Encoder and Actuator Components

  • Optical encoder disc designers and specifiers requiring cost-effective, accurate and durable solutions, now have access to a manufacturing process capable of meeting their needs.
  • Custom-designed optical encoder discs are routinely manufactured by Photofabrication in prototype through to volume quantities for a wide array of highly-accurate motion control, positioning and measurement applications.
  • Fundamentally the degree of control required by the application determines the encoder disc’s slot count and slot precision, and ultimately the manufacturing technology choice.
  • Actuator component designers also require a process to provide custom made components to facilitate their actuator designs. For this application a high degree of accuracy, along with both supreme quality and delivery availability are required. These are three elements Photofabrication regularly offer.
